Cannabis Cards Logan
Utah Medical Cannabis Card FAQ
Have questions about getting or renewing a medical cannabis card in Utah? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from patients in Logan and throughout Cache Valley.
Getting a Medical Cannabis Card
What conditions qualify for a medical cannabis card in Utah?
Utah has a specific list of qualifying medical conditions. These include persistent or acute pain that meets state requirements, PTSD, cancer, epilepsy or debilitating seizures, multiple sclerosis or debilitating muscle spasms, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, HIV or AIDS, autism, Alzheimer's disease, certain forms of persistent nausea, terminal illness, hospice care, and certain rare diseases.
You can view the full, current list on the Utah Center for Medical Cannabis website.
If you're unsure whether you qualify, you can schedule an appointment and provide as much information as possible so we can review your situation.
Can I get a medical cannabis card for anxiety or depression in Utah?
Anxiety and depression by themselves are not currently qualifying conditions under Utah's medical cannabis program.
PTSD is a qualifying condition when the state's requirements are met, and some patients may have another qualifying condition in addition to anxiety or depression.
How old do you have to be to get a medical cannabis card in Utah?
Adults age 21 and older may qualify for a Utah medical cannabis patient card if they meet the state's other requirements.
Patients under 21 must go through a separate state approval process. Because that process is extensive and approval can be difficult to obtain, Cannabis Cards Logan does not currently offer certifications for patients under 21.
Do I need medical records to get a medical cannabis card?
Medical records are helpful but are not always required. They can be especially useful when they document your diagnosis, previous treatment, or qualifying condition.
If you're unsure what to bring, contact us before your appointment and we'll help you determine what may be useful.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID and any relevant medical information or records you have available.
You should also create your UtahID and begin the medical cannabis application process through Utah's Electronic Verification System, or EVS, as directed before your appointment.
What happens during a medical cannabis evaluation?
You'll meet with a Qualified Medical Provider who will review your medical history, discuss your qualifying condition, and determine whether medical cannabis may be appropriate for you under Utah law.
The provider can also answer questions about the certification process and your next steps.
How long does it take to get a Utah medical cannabis card?
For many eligible patients, the process can move quickly once the required application steps and provider certification are complete.
Conditional cards are often available shortly after certification and are accessed electronically through your EVS account.
Do I need to live in Utah to get a Utah medical cannabis card?
Regular Utah patient cards are intended for Utah residents. Utah also offers a separate nonresident medical cannabis card for certain qualifying visitors who meet the state's requirements.
Appointments & Certification
Does my first medical cannabis appointment have to be in person?
In most cases, yes. However, there are some situations where exceptions apply.
If you're a new patient and have questions about whether an exception may apply to you, contact our office.
Can I renew my card through telehealth?
Yes.
What is a QMP?
QMP stands for Qualified Medical Provider. A QMP is a licensed Utah healthcare provider who has met the state's requirements to recommend medical cannabis to qualifying patients.
What is Utah's EVS?
EVS stands for Electronic Verification System. It is Utah's online system for medical cannabis patients, providers, applications, certifications, and cards.
Patients use their UtahID to access EVS, and medical cannabis cards are available electronically through the system.
Renewing Your Card
How often do I have to renew my Utah medical cannabis card?
Your first certification through our office is usually good for six months. For follow-up visits after that, we typically extend certification to 12 months, though the provider may choose a shorter duration depending on your circumstances.
Your current expiration date is available through your EVS account.
When should I renew my card?
It's a good idea to begin the renewal process before your expiration date so you don't experience an interruption in your ability to purchase medical cannabis from a Utah medical cannabis pharmacy.
Can I renew with Cannabis Cards Logan if I got my original card somewhere else?
Yes. You do not have to return to the same medical provider or clinic that originally certified you.
Your first visit with us will be considered an initial visit at our office, and you'll be issued a six-month certification the first time. After that, follow-up visits are typically extended to 12 months.
What happens if my Utah medical cannabis card expires?
Once your card has expired, you cannot use it to purchase medical cannabis from a Utah medical cannabis pharmacy until it is renewed.
The good news is you won't need to start the entire process over. We can simply recertify you. You may need to log into your EVS account to apply for certification, then just schedule an appointment with us.
We don't charge extra for an expired card or make you start over.

Buying & Using Medical Cannabis
Do you need a medical cannabis card to buy cannabis in Utah?
Utah does not have a recreational cannabis program. To legally purchase medical cannabis from a licensed Utah medical cannabis pharmacy, you must have the appropriate patient card or other authorization recognized by the state.
Where can I buy medical cannabis after I get my card?
Medical cannabis is purchased through licensed Utah medical cannabis pharmacies. Once your card is active and you've completed any required pharmacist consultation, you may purchase products from licensed pharmacies in Utah.
Can I buy cannabis in another state and bring it back to Utah?
Patients should purchase medical cannabis through licensed Utah medical cannabis pharmacies. Transporting cannabis across state lines can also implicate federal law.
Can I smoke medical cannabis in Utah?
Utah does not permit smoking cannabis. State law allows certain approved medical cannabis forms and methods of administration, including vaporization of permitted products.
Can I use medical cannabis in public?
Utah has specific restrictions governing where medical cannabis may be used. Patients should follow current state requirements and use medical cannabis only in locations permitted by law.
Can I share my medical cannabis with someone else?
No. Medical cannabis purchased under your patient card is intended for your own authorized medical use and should not be shared, sold, or given to another person.
Employment & Privacy
Can my employer fire me for using medical cannabis?
Employment protections vary depending on the type of employer and your individual circumstances.
Utah law provides certain protections for state and local government employees who lawfully use medical cannabis, although exceptions may apply. Private employers may maintain their own workplace drug policies and are not generally required to accommodate medical cannabis use.
If you have a specific employment concern, review your employer's written policy or seek appropriate legal guidance.
Is my medical cannabis information private?
Utah's medical cannabis program uses the Electronic Verification System to manage patient applications and certifications.
Cannabis Cards Logan treats patient medical information as confidential healthcare information and follows applicable privacy requirements.
